Rocking the great outdoors
Recently I was lamenting our lack of outdoor toys for J. We have a small sandbox and a tee-ball set and a pretend lawnmower and some soccer balls — but that’s about it. I was started searching through Amazon for ideas. Maybe a water table? A little outside playhouse?
The next day, J spent nearly an hour playing with this pile of rocks he found in the backyard. He made a “castle” with them and put little rocks inside the big rocks. I realized that kids will make toys out of nearly anything, and $50 or $100 on some elaborate plastic thing probably isn’t necessary. At least until he gets tired of these rocks.
Here are some great, inexpensive ideas for kids’ outdoor activities:
Hold an outdoor toy car wash
Make some exploding sidewalk paint
Try endless activities with sidewalk chalk
Learn ABCs with rocks
Get outside even on rainy days
